The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is committed to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment that is free from all forms of discrimination. The Nondiscrimination Policy is designed to promote a safe and healthy learning and work environment and to comply with all applicable state and federal laws that prohibit discrimination, including but not limited to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Consideration for free speech and academic freedom

Free speech and academic freedom are foundational to our university’s missions of discovery and exploration. Questioning ideas, posing alternative opinions, and presenting different perspectives is how we create knowledge and help everyone to have more meaningful engagement with the world around them. The manner in which those freedoms are expressed is not unlimited and expressive conduct must still comply with applicable laws and university policies.

Education and Training

Title VI Training

The Title VI Office encourages all university students, faculty, and staff to expand their understanding of Title VI Misconduct and how it is addressed by university policies and procedures.

Five Days for Change

Five Days for Change is an intensive, week-long training program designed to provide university employees with the opportunity to acquire and strengthen cultural competencies, awareness, and skills. This training will increase the visibility, skill, and effectiveness of allies in the cause of social justice and campus civility as critical campus incidents arise.
