Sex, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is committed to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment that is free from all forms of discrimination based on sex. Discrimination based on sex includes discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in accordance with the university’s Nondiscrimination Policy (CAM HR-48).

Title IX Office

The Title IX Office at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is primarily responsible for providing leadership, oversight, consultation, education, and training to the university community around the topic of Title IX and related university policies and procedures.


Contact the Title IX Office to:

  • seek information or training about rights and available actions to resolve reports or formal complaints involving potential sex discrimination, including Title IX Sexual Harassment and other Prohibited Sexual Misconduct;
  • file a formal complaint or make a report of sex discrimination, including Title IX Sexual Harassment and other Prohibited Sexual Misconduct;
  • obtain information about the availability of and for coordination of resources (including confidential resources) and supportive measures relating to sex discrimination, including Title IX Sexual Harassment and other Prohibited Sexual Misconduct;
  • discuss and receive assistance with reasonable modifications based on pregnancy or related conditions, rights of pregnant students, policy and procedure questions.

Sexual Misconduct Response

At Illinois, we care about supporting all students who are impacted by sexual misconduct, and we have many resources available to assist with various needs related to these issues. The university’s We Care:Sexual Misconduct Support, Response, and Prevention website provides comprehensive information about resources available, support, and reporting options. If you are concerned about safety or need medical attention, call 911 or go to a local medical facility.

Pregnancy and Related Conditions Support

The University of Illinois is committed to creating and maintaining an equitable and inclusive environment for students and employees who are experiencing current, potential, or past pregnancy or related conditions. A student may request a reasonable modification based on pregnancy or a related condition from the Title IX Office. Employees can request reasonable accommodations based on pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions, including lactation, for employees (including student employees) and job applicants.

Response to Discrimination on the Basis of Sex, Sexual Orientation, or Gender Identity

The Office for Access and Equity receives and addresses reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation, in coordination with other relevant university offices. Discrimination based on sex includes discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in accordance with the university’s Nondiscrimination Policy (CAM HR-48).

Concerns about Negative Behaviors and Sense of Belonging

Campus Belonging Bias Response is a resource focused on addressing bias incidents that impact the campus community. Through its educational and reporting processes, Campus Belonging encourages understanding of others’ perspectives, identities, and lived experiences. Our processes are designed with the goal of ensuring that the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is an equitable and inclusive community for all.
