Dr. Gioconda (Gio) Guerra Pérez serves as the Interim Vice Chancellor for Access, Civil Rights, and Community. She joined Illinois in 2013 as the Director of La Casa Cultural Latina, and has overseen the daily operations of ACRC since 2018. She also has recently served as the university’s Undocumented Student Liaison, as required by State of Illinois statute.
Born and raised in Panama, Dr. Guerra received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development and an M.A. in Sociology and Communication from the University of Louisville.
